One of those is the handcrafts\u2018 market Andravoahangy on Route Digue, located few kilometres from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/flughaefen-auf-madagaskar\/\">Ivato airport<\/a>. Hundred of artisans merged together here to the biggest handcrafts\u2019 market of the country, which offers really everything the heart could wish for.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2656\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2656\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/20150409_103510.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2656 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/20150409_103510-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Handwerkermarkt Tana\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/20150409_103510-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/20150409_103510-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2656\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Elaborately made boxes and chess games<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Boothes side by side make a length of more than one kilometre, and in each you can buy countless things. The small huts are numbered serially, so you\u2019ll find your favourite easily again if visiting twice. Besides lots of other things, you can get here statues made from tropical wood*, wooden boxes and tableaus with inlaid works, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/die-stadt-der-holzschnitzer\/\">wooden carvings<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/chez-joseph\/\">precious stones<\/a>*, numerous decoration articles made of metal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/papier-der-antemoro\/\">Antemoro paper<\/a>, wooden masks, raffia bags, raffia placemats and figurines, spices, small <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/mamys-miniaturen\/\">dinky cars<\/a> made of old cans, magnets, key rings made of wood, recycled cans or raffia, dishes, wooly and spider silk scarfs, hand-painted images on canvas, t-shirts and Lambas\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All the stuff is made in Madagascar, and most is even hand-made. Please better go without shells, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/flora\/\">plants<\/a> or stuffed animals due to species conservation reasons, especially since those articles are going to be confiscated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/was-darf-mit-am-zoll\/\">customs<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/flughaefen-auf-madagaskar\/\">airport<\/a>. As well be suspicious about very old looking stone figures and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/madagaskars-heimliches-wahrzeichen-das-zebu\/\">zebu<\/a> horn decoration: Some of those are taken from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/volksgruppen-madagaskars\/\">Mahafaly<\/a> gravesites in southern Madagascar \u2013 which is absolutely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madamagazine.com\/fady\/\">fady<\/a> (taboo). Indeed some families nowadays sell funerary goods, but usually against their will, just because they somehow need to care for their big families. You\u2019re welcome to bargain untiringly with the vendors, but please always stay fair!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The handcrafts\u2019 market is open each day from around 8.30 a.m. to 5 o\u2019clock p.m., and is always worth a visit.
